The real encyclopaedist is the tribal man, or the 
hunter like the Eskimo who has to know everything 
in order to survive. He has to know the total 
environment. There is no use teaching subjects to a 
hunter or to an Eskimo. In our kind of world children 
have to know just about everything in the 
environment in order to survive. They can’t just 
know arithmetic and hope to get by. They have to 
know the play of the whole environment again just
